Old Town Walkabout & VIP Venue 244

April 26, 2018

On Thursday, April 26th 2018, the Old Town Walkabout launches the annual Midwest Winefest. It kicks off three days of events for wine lovers with a stroll through Wichita's premier entertainment district - historic Old Town. The festivities begin at 5:30pm in the Old Town Square.

The 2018 participating venues include restaurants, bars, businesses, and a museum scattered from Douglas Street along Rock Island and N. Mead up to the plaza north of Second Street. At each stop, you can taste two wines and sample delicious, wine friendly appetizers while enjoying a variety of local musical talent.

A new addition to Walkabout this year is VIP Distillery 244 which includes access to all other Walkabout venues. VIP attendees will have private check-in beginning at 5:00pm. They will receive a souvenir Riedel wine glass and enjoy tasting premium wines along with Greystone Steak & Seafood appetizers. Distillery 244 will serve two signature cocktails made with their limited Guadalupe Vodka and Bourbon, available for purchase. Live music will be provided by ROAD 23. All of this can be enjoyed in a relaxed comfortable setting with come and go privileges to all other Walkabout venues throughout the evening until 9:00pm.

Oldtown Walkabout History…

More than 15 years ago, six Wichita residents took a trip to the New Orleans wine festival.  While there they participated in the Royal Street Stroll.  Participants in this event stroll from business to business in a four-block area in the French Quarter to sample wine and food.

The group thought this would be a wonderful addition to the Midwest WinefestSM and brought the idea back to the Winefest Committee… and, as they say, the rest is history!
